About Hospital Charge Atlas

Hospital Charge Atlas publishes CMS's own Medicare claims summaries hospital by hospital: the average amount each hospital charged for an inpatient stay or outpatient service, and the average Medicare actually paid, plus CMS's record of price-transparency enforcement. It is independent of CMS and of every hospital.

How the site works

Every figure comes from CMS: its public summaries of Medicare inpatient and outpatient hospital claims for 2024, and its list of hospital price-transparency enforcement actions. Hospital Charge Atlas is independent of CMS and of every hospital, and takes no payment from hospitals. Every calculation and exclusion is on the methodology page.

Corrections

If a figure is wrong or a source has changed, email hello@hospitalchargeatlas.com with the page and a link. Corrections go into the data file and the check date updates with the next build.
